    Hi,

I have been given the oppertunity to purchase a new MBP this coming fall by my University. It will be covered under financial aid but we will have requirements such as a certain amount of memory or screen size.

    I currently have a 15.4" MBP. 2.4 ghz, 160GB, 7200 rpm HD. Matte screen.
It is 7 months old and has been meticulously maintained.

Adobe Creative Suite 3 is installed as well as Mircosoft Office 2004.

My goal is to sell this machine and take the chance to get a new one with all of the current upgrades.

Does anyone have experience selling their mac?
If so why did you sell it? How much did you want and how much did you get?
What do you think a reasonable price is for my MBP? What would you pay?

I'm just looking for general advice. I'm excited about have a newer machine with upgrades, yet is the switch worth it?

Let me know all you know!

Macs tend to hold their value better than other machines. What upgrades does the new machine offer you? From a performance perspective, I don't think you'll seem much of an improvement over a machine thats seven months old.

Just keep your current machine. The upgrades are not worth the price of upgrading.

I guarantee that your current machine will last you for at least the next school year. So why not get more bang for you buck on the machine you have and wait to see what updates are coming up.

I bought my 2.16ghz MBP one month before the update came out with new graphics cards, LED screen etc. I did think about upgrading, but it really came down to DO I NEED IT? I didnt, and so I kept it and it has been 1 year and 8 days and it's still very, very good.

I found out some more information.

I am required to upgrade. I will need the top of the line 17 inch model, with whatever updates they happen to add this summer.

I need to sell my current machine.
What do your think a fair price would be?
What is the best way to sell a computer?

I regret selling my 2.4Ghz 256vram mbp because it only ended at $1650 and just 6 months ago I paid $2489!!

My current 17" hi res mbp just has a 1920x1200 but runs pretty much identical to the older gen mbp with no difference even running games its almost the same in fps. Also the I wished the 17" mbp had led on the 1680x1050 resoultion as it is perfect... the 1920x1200 I have to squint alot and gives me headaches after long uses.

I recently sold my 17" hi res on ebay for a good price (I lost a $100 on it) but went with another 15" as it is the perfect size. In the end I could have kept my previous gen 15" mbp which ran pretty much exactly the same as my current 2.5Ghz 15" mbp.. and saved $800-$900... the multitouch trackpad is kind of nice but not a huge deal at all... hardly ever use it but only advantage is that it does run much cooler than the previous gen (but I use a ilap anyways so doesnt matter).

If I were you I'd wait until June when the mbp will have the newer montevina with a frontside bus of 1033mhz with 800mhz ram and maybe even up to 6gb of ram upgradability as well.

does anyone have anyidea when the his res 17in will get and LED backlight? I wonder if that is a priority for apple at all.

Most people who get that will be working with graphics and looking at a screen for hours isn't uncommon.

Also, I think the multi-touch trackpad is great for quick editing.
Does it work with Adobe products?

My University is requiring all design students (me) to get the latest MBP next fall.

Unfortunately I thought I'd get ahead by buying one this year....but now I need to sell in order to afford the upgrade.

I have never sold a computer and don't know what to expect so I am just looking for some solid advice.

I'm not sure everyone would be interested in the Adobe CS3 programs...I can remove them and sell it cheaper or keep them on and bump the price.
The machine itself is perfect. Less than 10 battery cycles. Still have the box as well as all other accesories including the remote which has never been used.

Is there a reason why they are telling you that? How much does the University get from Apple?

Why would a university force you to get a laptop that doesn't run any windows software? Dual booting doesn't count as Apple does NOT support windows in dual boot and neither does microsoft.
