I just upgraded to 4GB RAM on one of the new MBPs. Would there be a market for my old 2 x 1 GB RAM on ebay? I am thinking that MBP is the only compatible machine so no-one would need it ?

No, that RAM will work in other machines--it's standard DDR2 SODIMM memory (I'm not sure of the speed offhand). I'm sure someone would want it.

I would just keep the ram for warranty purposes. Its not like you would get much from selling it anyway.

Yes you are right. I made an ebay listing but when I saw the price of 1Gb RAM I changed my mind! :)

Yeah, it is compatible with any notebook that uses the same type of RAM, but I will keep it anyway, as you wouldn't get a lot for it, and its useful for warranty purposes, etc.

Well, at least for me, if I needed to say return the Mac for some issue and get a replacement, I'd rather Apple not have my 2.5 GB of RAM when my MacBook came with 1 GB :p. But you can't just take out all 2.5 GB of RAM and leave nothing in there...so to not have that predicament, I'd just return it with the stock Apple RAM.

I think they also wont fix it if the machine has been altered?

Ahh ok, yeah that makes sense Sam, thanks. Switching RAM is fine, but not the HD on the MBP(you can switch out the HD on the macbook). According to Apple that will void the warranty.
