I'm new to the forum and I don't know if this has been discussed before, so I'm sorry if this is a repeat.

My MacBook Pro finally died on me after about 5 years. It's a 15" Intel Core Duo, 2.0Ghz, 1G memory, etc., etc. Basically the logic board is fried. Everything else is in perfect working order and I'm just wondering what my options are. I don't want to replace the logic board for $900.

I'd like to part it out, but I've never done that before and I don't really know what I'm doing. What's the best way to go about selling its parts so that I maximize my profits?

Like I said, no other bum parts on the laptop...just the logic board. As a matter of fact, a couple of the parts were replaced within the AppleCare warrantee period (hard drive being one of them).

    Thanks in advance!

Go to ifixit website. They sell used macbook pro parts. They also show you how to disassemble everything. You could use their parts as a price reference. Sell a bit lower than their prices othwerwise what is to keep others from ordering parts from ifixit instead of from your parts.

For example, a replacement case from ifixit with assembled keyboard and trackpad etc is about $299. Perhaps try selling your case for about $150 - 200 or so. Their back panel of the case is about $150, try selling yours for $75 (unless it is mint condition and zero scratches then maybe try $100).

You can make BIG money by selling the display case housing with the display and all intact. Normally shops charge $750 - $900 to replace a display housing assembly. Sell yours to someone who has a badly dented lid or cracked screen and who is looking for a fix/replacement for $500 (just an example)

Sorry to hear about the damage though and good luck on the selling of the parts.
