i have a new macbook pro, and sometimes when i press F1 to reduce screen brightness, the whole screen goes black. anyone else have that problem?
-
If you decrease the brightness all the way (so that no boxes are white on the on-screen brightness meter), you've actually turned the screen off. It's not a problem, that is what is supposed to happen. It's a similar situation when you decrease the volume all the way, no sound - like mute!

yea, but i just press it F1 once, and the whole screen goes black sometimes

OK, that was just the most obvious and easily fixable issue I could think of. Hope for the best, right? I really don't know what the problem is.
Really since you have a new computer, and Apple has great Customer Service, I would recommend you just take it to an Apple Store Genius Bar. However, for some people that may be an inconvenience. In that case you could try several general troubleshooting suggestions:
- Make sure all Software & Firmware is Up-to-Date (including the MBP EFI Firmware Update 1.3).
- Reset the PRAM and NVRAM.
- Reset the SMC.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
