As I'm 100% sure I want the older intel santa rosa macbook pro, I was just wondering if there were models with the glossy screen? I want a matte screen as I tend to sit outside with my laptop, so how will I be able to differentiate between the two?

In the macbook pro lineup, they the different generations were referred to as Santa Rosa, Penryn, and then the unibodies came along.

Technically, they may all be on the santa rosa platform, or whatever it is, but thats generally how they are referred to.

So you might want to figure out specifically which model you want, you probably are thinking about the Penryn ones.

Yes they had a glossy screen option, as well as matte. The glossy screen isnt as bad as the new macbook lineup, but it is still glossy. I'd say get the matte over the glossy, but like i said, they arnt as bad as the current gen ones.(in terms of relectiviness)

I consider the new unibodies as the penrynn series.

I'm talking about the 2.4 ghz with the 256 nvidia 8600 gt.

How reflective is that glossy in comparison to the matte? How will I be able to tell from the two

I'm not sure about the Macs, but in general glossy screens tend to be brighter, which does help outdoors, but the glare can be worse as well outdoors.

Uhh, so basically, it looks like youre looking for a "penryn macbook pro" I dont think youll get much luck with a model number, they dont really go by them.

I think that the base model when they came out, were 2.4ghz. There was a higher ghz model with more mhz and more vram. Basically, just look to see that the cpu matches 2.4, and that the video card matches as well. Also look for the penryn identifier.

Apple store refurb section is a pretty decent place to get them, and there are other apple retailers out there, im not sure of them cause i live in canada.

The glossy displays on the penryn and SR MBP's looks like the display on the old plastic macbooks. It's not glass, it's just a standard notebook display with a shiny coating. If you look at the old standard Macbooks, that'll tell you how shiny it is. I'd look for one with a matte display though, especially if you're working outside.

Im looking for a second hand one. Apple store + 14% tax in canada is rape. Comes out to 1750-1850 for a refurb macbook pro. For that price I'd rather get a Sager from the US.
