I'm using a Minidisplay port to HDMI to connect to the TV.

My MBP detects the TV but my TV does not detect my MBP.

Someone shed some light here please!

I've gone into System Preference, clicked Mirror Display, etc etc. I've fooled around with the Refresh Rate and all that. No good.

The thing is, I also have a 32' LCD Samsung upstairs that I can connect to easily. The TV detects is instantly and I can output 1080p, etc etc without a problem.

That's a problem that I have with my MBP. I have a Toshiba TV that I tried connecting to my MBP, and even though the MBP is able to display images on it, the images are messed up. On another Toshiba TV though that is newer, it displays just fine.

One other experiment I tried is running Windows in Boot Camp and trying to connect. Windows works with both TV's no problem. That's an advantage with Windows, in that it supports a lot more hardware.

you should try multiple resolutions... see if it just doesn't like the one your trying to use. Just as a tip, it easiest to control both displays if one isn't coming up... by setting them to show in the top menubar.. then you can set things easily.

Strange I have the Samsung 8500 series and I can connect my MBP quite easily.

I have actually been able to connect my MPD through my Denon AVR as well. And the Denon has proven to be the most touchy of HDMI inputs. It won't see my digital Cable box at all, but it will pick up my MBP.

I am using a non apple adapter also, no issues at all.

Do you think it's the TV's, cable, or MBP's fault?

I mean my 32' LCD detects it just fine. But my 55' continues to display "No Signal".

Is there some sort of option I'm not enabling? I mean, I plug the MDP->HDMI in their respective ports, go to Syst. Pref>Display>Detect Display, and the MBP sees the Samsung. It gives me a ton of resolution options to choose from with 60Hz being the highest Refresh rate. Yet, the 55' doesn't detect it.

My LED will even display different resolutions. Maybe try another mini display port adapter.

That's really odd actually. How old is your display adapter, I believe the new ones from apple also support Audio from the Display port over HDMI.

Do you have the mid 2010 MBP with the updated Display port with audio outport?

After looking at the specs it clearly states it's for a Display port 1.1

DisplayPort v1.1 * Does not support audio

I know the dongle I am using supports Audio out over HDMI. Also the newer LED samsung's all support the latest 1.4 HDMI. I would maybe try a proper Apple dongle and regular HDMI cable. I would suggest you try this one.

Moshi Mini DP to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support - Apple Store (U.S.)

    Supports full HD display at 1080p (1920 x 1080)
Supports HDMI audio pass-through for select systems*
    Aluminum casing minimizes EM interference
Compact design allows unobstructed adjacent port access
