I posted this problem a couple of months ago, and since it wasn't resolved, i stopped using safari all together.
I have the newest Safari, and when i try to go to hotmail.com, i get caught in a neverending loop of redirections. Please see about the problem and the remedy here: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20071212084421968

The author suggests deleting the cookie and then signing out of hotmail each time. What if I don't want to sign out? Isn't there a solution to fix this dumb problem without any restrictions?

Safari doesn't like to play nice with Hotmail. Just use FireFox.

You want an Apple internet browser to work with a Microsoft email site? Wow... :D...the irony of this thread :D...

Are you serious??? It worked until Oct or Nov 2007.
A browser is a browser, doesn't matter if it's Apple's or Hooters' (wonder what a Hooters browser would look like...). It should be able to open everything.

I could easily create a website that fetches the OS and browser versions you are using, and then write a simple if statement that runs some harmful script at the side if I so desire.
There are a number of Mircosoft websites that are restricted to Internet Explorer alone. Nothing new there.

Sounds very likely that it's a Microsoft issue. If your browser settings didn't change, but the site behaves differently, it doesn't sound like Apple broke Safari.

Microsoft wrote the worst browser in history, known for letting HTML standards slip.

See if Firefox will let you in. If so, tamper with the Firefox settings to imitate Safari (You can change the browser info so sites will think you are using any other browser you choose). See if it still does it to you after you pretend to be Safari.

Microsoft is always messing with Hotmail. I used HM exclusively for years then I finally gave up. I do occasionally check it since I use it when filling out online forms (expecting Spam). FYI, it even chokes with XP/Vista. For example, when logging in you can select an option for it to remember the account and password. That didn't work on any PC for several months, and it still doesn't work occasionally. I have the same issue as the OP with the looping stuff. It's been that way for a very long time, and it's something MS did when they were introducing HM "improvements." The only way to make it work constantly is log out and set it not to remember the password. My ultimate solution several years ago was to migrate over to Gmail. It works beautifully on every device I own including the iPhone.

I'm signed into hotmail as I type. No problems here. Safari 3.0.4.

You guys keep saying it's hotmail's problem and Microsoft made the worse browser. But this problem is only in Safari. Firefox and camino open hotmail without a problem, even when they've been set to remember the password.

In case you didn't read the link, the problem only comes when you're using safari and have saved the email address and password on hotmail, so to stay logged in at all times. This puts hotmail in a error-ending loop of redirections the next time you open hotmail.

FF opens it, Camino opens it, Opera opens it, IE opens it. But wait, Safari doesn't open it. So bad microsoft, bad bad girl.
    I don't buy that.

    safari fine here on hotmail.

could be a bug, or maybe just something not "syncing" right with the server.

how are you saving your safari HM password? does keychain work on HM?

i dont buy that its MS either, but some things just never work with eachother, and need to be accepted.

on a side note, why do you need hotmail? Dont want to use gmail/ Leopard mail?

I get this problem too. I find the best way is to tell it not to save the password. As long as everytime you type in the password, its fine, but I've found that if you tell it to save your password, it messes up.

Yeah, I'd like to know how to fix that too, if possible, other than using Firefox/Camino :p.

    Leopard mail: money.
Gmail: is this the only email server that hasn't had an update on its interface? Even yahoo has drag-and-drop now. Gmail just looks plain and ugly, and let's not forget to mention that the geniuses at google figured out we don't need folders... wtf?!?

Did you make hotmail remember your username and password? Did you close safari after that (or go to another website) and try going back to hotmail.com again? That's the complete process to make this loop happen.

    yes to all here.

my suggestion is deal with gmails "ugly" (as you call it) interface from time to time when your away from your mac, and enjoy the richness that gmail/osx mail have to offer,

    OR

keep using hotmail, and log in all the time.

either way, neither is a huge problem.
