I just downloaded Safari 3 for OS X to try it out, and I gotta say I am impressed. It seems much faster than FF and I really like the UI. I have not used Safari since I first got a Mac about a year ago, so I don't really recall much of my experience. I do remember being underwhelmed. But so far 3.0 has been fast and I really like the layout.

    Anyone else trying it?

I installed it as well. It's blazing fast, but a little buggy at times. I've had it crash twice on me.

Its just going to be so hard to compete with Firefox and its extension catalog. Even more so on the windows side.

It does seem quite nice... definitely very fast with a clean interface.

Only quibbles are lack of a few advanced tab options (such as tabbing from the back button or getting a bookmark to open up in another tab as far as I can see) and limited bookmark control - it's annoying that there's no way to alphabetize em (and reminds me of early FF)

Interesting to see how it developes though

I tried it on Windows and it seems to be ok.

I won't install it on my Mac yet though, as I use Shapeshifter, Saft and Safari Stand and I've read that some of those aren't compatible with the new BETA.

The program seems solid on my old eMachines desktop (was afraid to install on anything else), but it is definitely not as fast as FF. I don't even use Safari on my Macs because FF is much faster.

Still no crashes here. And for me FF is much slower than Safari so far. If it keeps moving in the right direction I'll probably drop FF.

Safari 3 is a memory hog compared to FF. That is why it is able to be faster than FF.

Right now Safari is using about 30MB more memory than Firefox. I have 2GB in this system, I'll gladly give up less than 1% of my memory for the extra speed. I don't really use extensions so that won't keep me either.

I'm using Safari right now...normally I use Camino but I'm trying out the "new" Safari. It does seem faster, but too bad its still heavy on brushed-metal :(. In the Leopard version Brushed Metal is gone, but I guess we have to live with Brushed Metal Safari for another few months.

One thing I've been critical on Safari about: well, two actually. One is the brushed metal, too "dark" for my taste, and two, website bookmarks don't the favicon (the little icon that sits left of the website address) next to it! :( I missed that feature from FF2, IE7 and Camino. And Opera.

But the resizing of text boxes feature is excellent. I can resize this text box any way I want, and it works smoothly and nicely.

I'm using Safari on Windows and it honestly stinks. There was a lot of things I didn't like about it so I uninstalled it. Good riddance.

I checked out the Camino website and it mentioned something about Mozilla FF. Is Camino supposed to be like Mozilla FF but better?

I think they are both based on the same thing but camino is specialized for OS X

Now that I run Camino instead of FF, my CPU usage roams around 43-46 instead of 55-60.

    EDIT: sorry, CPU temperature.
