I had an X25-M in my hands yesterday but RMA'd it to newegg and got the Momentus XT (see my thread). Yes, performance is very good but it only remembers your most used apps. I want consistent speed across the board no matter which app it is. Also, the main reason I am returning is I did not think the vibration was too much until I threw my 5400 Hitachi stock drive back into the machine.

It's night and day difference. So I'm going to Optibay+X25-M it.

Sucks I have to deal with returns and bite the 15% restocking fee on the Momentus XT (and about $12 for cancelling the order for the optibay alternative+ SATA SuperDrive enclosure) in addition to returning the item, but now I know.

    Patiently waiting...

Also, I felt the platter stopped spinning and spinned up again a few times, not sure if that's because stuff is loading off the SSD or premature signs of drive failure.

    Uh oh...

I am sure you will love Intel X25-M. Too bad momentus XT didn't stand up to the performance....

Wow, I have a X25M and a WD 640GB 5400rpm and was about to send them back for a Momentus. Right now I am confused. Is the vibration really that bad? And wouldn't the duel solution drain more power than a single hybrid?

Why would anyone in their right minds make this switch?

Well my MBP is on the way, and not only would hybrid save some money, but also save some hassle of having a single driver, both installation and usage.

vibration being that bad is subjective. I don't know if it's all 7200rpm drives or what, but with the stock hitachi it feels like there's no hard drive in here. With the momentus xt, it felt like a disc was in the superdrive (although not at full speed -- not that bad).

X25-E is SLC SSD whereas X25-M is MLC SSD.

    X25-E is better, but at $630 for 64GB, u can decide ;) :p
