So yes I have my new MacBook and everytime I after to restart after installing something, I get stuck looking at a white screen. No little apple, no little circle with flashing things, nothing...

    How "normal" is this?

Do you mean after installing an Update from Apple? Sometimes after installing Apple Updates it does take longer to restart and the boot screens are different in this case, that's normal.

But how long is that "longer"? Is 5 minutes normal?

Maybe, if you installed a substantial Update. After you've installed the update(s), then restarted and waited, and waited, did your MacBook finally boot into OS X? Hopefully so, then the next time you Restart it should NOT take very long at all (unless you install more updates).

If its a major Software Update, such as 10.4.10, or a Security Update, yes, sometimes it can take more than a minute or two before the Apple logo shows up and the loading circle starts "rotating".

Its mostly normal. As Xander suggested, try restarting again (don't install any updates this time). It should be much faster.

ok... I guess I'll see next time I restart...
Last time I had to hold on the power button 3 times before I could see the Apple logo...
