    The Lowdown:
    Product - Titanium Powerbook G4 (500mhz)
    Problem - Dying optical drive
I Want - Find bootable combo or dvdrw drive for this model.

Hey all, my TiBook (500mhz) needs a new optical drive. The old one has really spotty performance (took me 3 days and countless hours to reinstall the OS). Can anyone recommend a drive that can be put into the computer and that will be bootable? I've seen that some companies, like MCE Technologies, offer combo and superdrive replacements, like this one: Linky. Does anyone know who the oem supplier of this drive is or if there's an equivalent product out there? Note: according to MCE, my G4 and the later models with DVI ports use different replacement drives. My firewire port is dead, so an external drive is out of the question (usb 1.1 is entirely too slow).
