So I've realized that I need to replace my MBP superdrive,
this is the late 2007 MBP

I went into About this Mac and then More Info

The disc burning is listed as
    MATA DVD-R UJ-857E:

and the only parts I can find on ebay are the UJ-857C
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-MacBook-Pro-HL-DVD-Superdrive-GSA-S10N-GWA-4080MB_W0QQitemZ250445035808QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPCC_Drives_Storage_Internal?hash=item3a4faff920&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A15|66%3A2|39%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

notice the letter difference, since im a n00b at the whole apple parts things i was just wondering if this is the correct part to replace my drive with?

    thanks for the help everyone

You might want to go for the NEC OptiArc version of the SuperDrive, it's actually a lot more compatible with different media and the later models had it instead(Early 2008 and the MacBook Air SuperDrive). The UJ is actually Matsush!ta (Panasonic) and they are generally hated amongst optical drive communities. The GSA-S10A is an LG, but that price is really high...

I have a spare NEC drive. Interested? I can part with it since I'm not using it anymore. PM me if your interested, I can let it go for cheap.

he said he's not using it anymore. this implies he pulled it from a mac.

Edit, sorry, the NEC is actually 12.7mm, which doesn't work in your MacBook Pro, My bad.

I think your only option is the LG...

it seems like a alot of the drives have varying reviews, is there one that is seen as a cut above the rest?
that being said i also wont use my drive much, in fact im only installing a new one b/c im having alot of difficulty installing leopard through other means (ive tried nearly everything) and because id like to have a burner in the future even though i dont use media that much

any advice about which drive to replace it with would be great; but i dont want to spend more than 75 maybbbbe 100

    thanks in advance
