I got a piece of crap refurbished apple macbook pro from apple refuribshed that was clearly used and had stuff spilled on it and it looks to be a frankenstein of parts. yes, things work. But

    1. Can I return it without a restocking fee to apple? I thought apple refurbished were identical to new, and this one was so used. But had been cleaned up as best as you could, but you could still feel like the lid wouldn't close as tightly, and the trackpad had an issue. It had been abused.

    2. How can I get the piece of dirt/smudge that is about 1/4 inch underneath my screen in the bottom viewable area? I think the screen is good in this particular model, so I got lucky. But are there procedures for getting rid of this smudge? I'm sure apple will not fix it b/c I don't have faith in them.

1.) call and ask, plead your case and see.
2.) Do you mean UNDER the screen?

Sounds like a real bad situation there.

I wouldn't know how to get rid of dust UNDER a screen...I guess, how did it get there in the first place?

My advice is either take it directly to an Apple store and plead your case, or call apple and tell them your unsatisfied and want another sent to you. I wouldn't loose faith. Refurbished laptops are called that for a reason, but they aren't supposed to come with obvious damage and defects. Bottom line is, Apple will make you happy, and if you're told otherwise it's cause you're dealing with a rookie. Just keep trying. There should be no restocking fee as long as you haven't waited past 14 days from receiving it to complain. After that point it's Apples decision whether to be lenient, but you can try to sway them.
