Before I formated my computer I would hit the menu button and I could get to my movies, music, and see movie trailers. That doesn't come up anymore and when I put in a movie it opens up a different dvd program and looks different. I think it opened up idvd or something.

What software do I have to install to get it to work again?

Hmm, try pressing Command + Esc. That should launch Front Row. If it doesn't launch Front Row, then it really is an issue and not just the Apple Remote being out of battery :p.

As for putting in a movie, normally a DVD opens in DVD Player.

You could try manually updating with Front Row 1.3 as a reinstallation and repair. You also need iTunes and iPhoto installed.

As for the DVD issue, you can change the default actions in System Preferences --> CDs & DVDs.

Did you try pressing Command + Esc? Because if Front Row also doesn't launch with Command + Esc then we know its an issue with Front Row and not the Remote.

Did what Sam said work? Does the remote work at all? For instance, if iTunes or DVD Player is already active are you able to use the remote? Or can you control the volume on your Mac with the remote?

Make sure "Disable remote control infrared receiver" is not checked under System Preferences --> Security. Or maybe your Mac has been paired with another remote, if so Click Unpair.

The remote works in idvd. command esc doesn't do anything. I can turn the volume up as well.

I reinstalled it by itself and it did not work. I clicked every software program possible like a new install and it now works!

I'll just try to uninstall the old stuff now.
Does anyone know if there is a problem with installing some mac software from the Tiger cd after lots of patches to the OS has already been done?
