    Hi.

I am trying to see if I need a $99 superdrive, after buying a MBA I will be slightly out of cash for a while!

So what can't I do with remote disc? I will need to install Office 2008, use my iTunes back-up CD to get my music from my iTunes libary on my PC to the Mac. Can it be done?

Or is there any other ways of getting stuff done? As I have seen in my local computer stores, cheaper USB DVD-RW's. But no one knows if it works :(

    Thank you.

    Nick

I'm fairly sure Remote Disk works like having a standard drive in the MBA. Just probably slower, but everything should work.

I thought I'd read that you couldn't install XP using Remote Disc?

From what I've read, you just pretty much just read a data disc and install software.... and not much else.

What about playing CD's and ripping a CD to the iTunes libary?

    Thank you.

ripping, you dont need to set it up for that. rip it in windows, then move the files to a shared folder, and get them in the mac over the network. you might be able to do it directly tho.

don't get a macbook air if you need an optical drive and don't want to buy the external one.
