What can you do with an Apple Remote and a Mac?

Apple provides some basic instructions about the Apple Remote:

Getting familiar with the buttons
The Apple Remote features six buttons:

Menu

Select/Play/Pause

Volume Up

Volume Down

Next/Fast-Forward

Previous/Rewind

Press the Menu button to open Front Row and play songs, slideshows, movies, movie trailers, and music videos. Press the Menu button again to return to the previous menu.

Pressing the Volume Up (+) and Volume Down (-) buttons lets you navigate through the menu options, or adjust the volume when playing an audio or video file.

Press the Select/Play/Pause button to select an option from the menu. You can also use the Select/Play/Pause button to play or pause a song in iTunes, a slideshow in iPhoto, or one of your movies.

Press the Previous/Rewind or Next/Fast-forward button to skip to the previous or next track, respectively, in iTunes, or hold down the appropriate button to rewind or fast-forward through a track. You can also use these buttons to skip to the next or previous chapter in a DVD movie, or hold either of them down to fast-forward or rewind a movie.

Press the Select/Play/Pause button for three seconds to put your Mac to sleep. You can press any button on the remote to wake the Mac up again. [That's cool, I didn't know about that one!]

The button behavior depends on which application you're using at that time. Here are some of the things you can control with your Remote:

In iTunes, you can adjust the volume, play or pause a song, or skip to the next or previous track.

In iPhoto, you can play a slideshow of any of your photo albums.

You can play movies from your Movies folder or watch QuickTime movie trailers online.

In DVD Player, you can control the playback of a DVD in your optical drive.

The Sleep function is nice, but does anyone know how to remap the controls? Instead of Sleep, can I make the Mac Shut Down?

Can anyone recommend a Freeware application to expand the Apple Remote's functionality? I just found iRed Lite. Does anyone use iRed Lite?
