Reinstalling OS X

Okay, so due to all the problems I've been having in OS X recently, I decided to go ahead and reformat. Unfortunantly, I forgot to change the default install stuff. I know there were a bunch of language (localization?) files and stuff that take up a lot of space. Is there an easy way to remove this stuff?

BTW, it was having issues coming out of sleep, it often detected an external monitor when there wasn't one (after coming out of sleep), would sometimes just hang for a while, and certain apps would stop working properly until I rebooted.

Figured I probably FUBAR'd something...

And I had to reformat anyway due to the fact that I'm installing boot camp and I wasn't able to get the drive to partition before.

 

Humm. OS X is not windows; there is no registry to mess with and no stray drivers to fubar your system. I assume you tried to repair permissions and see whether there was some physical damage to the disk; also, a look at console might point at the culprit. I really doubt these issues coming out from sleep are software related, but good luck.

AFAIK you can't remove localization files at install time. You can try this program:

Also, I read that printer drivers take a lot of space.

 

I agree with Wooky. You should rarely have to reinstall OS X. There are many more steps you can take. First try reseting the PRAM and NVRAM, that fixes many issues, especially power management. Also, as Wooky said try repairing permissions. If you still reinstall, you do not have to reformat, you can reinstall over top. That will usually fix the problems. As for not being able to partition your drive, try reinstalling boot camp, although as wooky said it may be a drive issue.

 

I did the NVRam reset and checked my ram as well.
Even after reinstalling, it still comes up about half the time thinking there is a second monitor connected.
So I dunno. I'm gonna just call apple up when I have a free moment and ask them about it. Cause it really pisses me off when it does that lol.

I guess it's possible that the DVI connection is shorting out and causing this.

I remember when I first got my MBP and did the reinstall, that I foudn a way to select exactly what was being installed. So I could take out language support (or so I thought) and remove printer drivers, xCode, etc. if I wanted.

Have you done the three account format? If you did, is it still acting this way in the diagnostic account? If it does, then you either have an actual hardware issue here, or that incredibly rare case where you actually will need to reformat, but like I stated its very rare.

 

Right now I have my admin and user account. I don't have a diag account.
