So....
I got apple care for my macs, and I was going to register them, so i called apple to make sure the macbook would be in my name and address and not the old owner. They said i'd have to have him call in and say i could re-register it.
He said he diddn't recall registering it. So.... thoughts?

If they're bought second hand I'm 100% sure you have to transfer ownership with some sort of forms that the original owner has to fill out
-
Problem is he said he diddn't register it. So... idk waht to do! -
I'd call Apple customer service up again and ask to speak to a superior... If he didn't register it then there's nothing you can do about it. Do you have any proof that you bought the laptop from him?
-
But what I don't get is when you buy the laptop, you register it when you turn it on, no?
And his name was not correct.
Ugh. -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
To my knowledge, original Apple warranty is either tied to date of manufacture or later original date of sale (if one can prove the latter), 1 year from that day. OS registration on activation works that way with MS products, but notebooks (all manufacturers) generally aren't automatically registered for warranty coverage except after specific action of the owner - thus the date of manufacture default. OEM hard drive warranty coverage works the same way.
AppleCare must be registered within 365 days from then, and Apple is absolutely firm on that.
Original owner may not realize that Apple may already have it tied to his name and purchased invoice from his purchase, even if he doesn't remember filling anything out. Either he still needs to call Apple to transfer ownership if you're within 1 year of purchase, or you might try to register ACare anyway and see if it goes through. If you're outside the 365 window, you might as well Ebay off your AppleCare because it's worthless now. -
I'll PM him and see what he says. -
You do not have to register when first powering up although I imagine most do not know this.
So if it is his name at Apple he would need to transfer it to you.
I have done this and had it done several times and it should not be a big deal....as long as he will participate.
Good Luck

I advise you to tell the seller to call apple and have them transfer the warranty. Proof of identity is required when making a repair. There are some forms which need to be filled before attempting a repair.

So i'm kidna stuck here..... -

I'd just reinstall the OS and go through that registration process on initial boot. Thats how I set up every MAC I've sold and the new owner was automatically registered without my having to talk to Apple.
I have never filled out any transfer forms and in some cases I know the new owners got warranty repair from Apple. -
And according to them it still isn't in my name :/ -

Thanks for being a totally awesome seller btw -
