That's an early 2011 model... the only difference between that one and the current one is .1ghz in the cpu. Does that make too much of a difference to you? Consider the price tag on that thing too!

Any model, regardless of the generation, that has been returned to Apple post-purchase, will eventually show up on the refurbished list, unless they have to totally scrap it. There is no way of guessing what will turn up unless it does. They update it on an 'as it comes' basis. I don't think there are any fixed ETA for items to turn up on that list. Apple will put up whatever they have at the moment fit to be sold as refurbished.

I see, thanks. I'm waiting to find one with a better HD, perhaps one with an SSD.

If by better HD you mean a higher resolution screen, your only options are to either get an Air, or go up to the MBP15/17. I'm afraid that's the highest/only available resolution on the MBP 13". Although, technical specifications aside, the screen on the MBP 13" is just stunning! While a higher resolution is almost always welcome, don't judge by the stock 13" screens around... the MBP 13 is in a league of its own! :)

No, I meant hard drive. Either one at 7200rpm, or a solid-state drive/disk.

it would be cheaper to buy that one, and upgrade the HD your self. It's SUPER easy.

That's a really good price by the way. I found mine brand new for $900 even on ebay, but that was SUPER lucky!

Exactly... Apple upgrades, especially the ones like HDD and RAM, are way too expensive. You can do them yourself. Parts will cost a lot less if you buy them from third party vendors. :)

Does Apple usually have a Christmas/Boxing day sale? If they do, is there an additional discount on the refurbs as well? I'm guessing they don't, as the only sale I remember is once a year on Black Friday

I doubt :( ! I've never heard of it. And, no, I don't suppose they will give you any discounts whatsoever on the refurb products. The refurbs already have about 200-500 bucks off, depending on the type of the product, and in Apple terms that's humongous! Don't expect any further discounts on anything refurbished. Hell, you can't even get a refurbished iPOD engraved  ! Come on Mr.Cook...

    Huge apple fan, huh?

I'm thinking of getting the one I linked to, but on the other hand, I'm holding back because I'd like to see more options in the refurbished section. It's not like I'm going to miss it and this deal will never come back in the next 2 weeks, right?

If you mean a fanboy... then no, I'm not! :p I was a PC guy for a long time before I converted. I just find Apple's products to be better built and a lot less hassle... of course the aesthetics doesn't hurt

Honestly, you never know. I once saw a great deal on a MBP 15, but I decided to wait for a week, and sure enough a better one turned up. Got me greedy, and I thought of waiting a little longer... two days later both were gone, and I've never seen another deal like that one :( . You never know when somethings gonna run out of stock, and how long you have to wait till you get another one of those back on... Apple products never come cheap ( you may even argue that they are a tad overpriced), and if you get a deal you like you should just pick it up, if you can. You never know if you'll get one you like again for a few months...

Well, problem is I don't know what to like. I don't have a point of reference. If I had been looking at the refurbs for a while then I could compare it to previous deals. Right now all I see is this one laptop that's off for 20% (some macbook pro 15" are of 30%), and I don't know what to make of it.

Honestly, there's not much you can make of it. That's just what Apple is selling it for. About 20-25% on MBP 13s that are not older than 2 years, and 30% on the 15s is what they generally offer. Once in a blue moon they will put up a discontinued Macbook for something like 800 bucks, but usually it will be from way to early to throw away even 800 bucks on. The link you posted is pretty good. Check ebay/amazon for similar deals. That should give you an idea about how much used/refurb machines with that kind of specs cost. Then go for it, or let it go :)
