Guys, is there any reason why I shouldn't go for a refurbished MBP? It is £170 cheaper. I don't mind small scratches...

I didn't find anything in the archive regarding this issue.

Refurbished Macs don't have any scratches; they look brand-new and I believe come with full warranties - at least on this side of the pond (US).

I purchased a refurbished MBP in May and I haven't had any problems. My machine looked brand new except for a very very small dent on the left side. It was so small I didn't even notice it for the first month. As far as performance, it has been flawless.

If you go to Apple and they don't have the specific model you're looking for you just need to wait a few days. They refresh the refurb page everyday or maybe every few days.

I want to buy one refurbished but not from apple but amazon...will I still have a one year full warranty?
Also, how do I get the warranty for MBP, do I fill in a form that's included? I was wondering since a refurbished might not have the papers or might already be under previous warranty?

If the Amazon refurb is certified by Apple (and is simply being distributed by Amazon), the refurbished Mac will have a one-year warranty that starts when you purchase it (just update the information online).

As for warranty...not much to worry about. If you have any issue, you will need the serial number (and receipt too, but usually they don't look at that) of the MBP to show the customer support rep, and that's easy to find.

I think you are right, though I did email amazon..still waiting for a reply.

Also, they have a refurbished MBP for $170 less - is that enough to chose it instead of the new one?

$170 less than a brand new MBP, or $170 less than a normal refurb MBP?

If its just $170 less than a brand new MBP, I'd just go for a brand new one (unless that $170 is absolutely valuable in your limited budget). Not that I don't have confidence in Apple's refurbs (and they're excellent quality), but I mean, its always a nice feeling to have a brand new product instead of a "second-hand" :p.

    170 GBP, not USD. That's almost $350.

EDIT: (I'm not the OP, so in my case it's $170.)
Well, the new MBP disappeared while I was making up my mind and now I'm not that interested in the refurbished one :(
