    Hi all,

I've been considering buying an MBP 15" for some time now but have been put off by the price tag. The recent spec refresh across the MBP line might however spur me into actually purchasing one.

My question is with regards to the 6750M card in the base 15" version. This card was previously in the top 15" version but to my memory included 1gb memory on the card as opposed to the 512mb now featured. Will this drop in memory have much effect on performance? My needs are moderate, mainly MMOs etc but i would like to use moderate settings on the games i do play.

    Many thanks

I think you'll be fine with the base 15"
the extra 512mb won't make a huge difference

the higher end now has a 6770 1gb not a 6750... so it will have 512mb more ram, and it will be slightly faster... comparing the older model 6750 1gb or the current lower model 6750 512mb, I doubt you'd see much of a difference in most games.

    Many thanks!

While we're on the subject... how about the difference between 1gb 6750 and the 6770?

I think you can overclock the 6750 to basically a 6770, i think Apple used the higher end version of the 6750.

The 512 mb difference would for example in SC2 prevent you from having ultra textures ( you would have to have high textures) but that is about it.

Do you think the price different of base and top 15 mbp worth the upgrade?

I think the refreshed base 15 is golden now. There is really no need for most people to upgrade to the higher end model, which wasn't the case before the refresh.

The 6490 to 6750 is well worth it.

The 6750 to 6770 is probably worth $35 not $400.

If they had fit in a 6850 it might have been a little different.
