My MacBook Pro's Screen is broken. Instead of fixing it for $500 which I think is not worth it, I would rather use it as a desktop.

So, what would be a good cheap external monitor I could buy?

Would something like this not work? Amazon.com: Buying Choices: HP L1750 17" Flat Panel Screen LCD DVI Monitor GF904A

I noticed that the color of it seems to be good. But it's only 17inch. I would prefer something larger than that, but whatever is cheap works. Would this not connect to MBP because it's not HDMI?

you can use most any monitor, you however will need a mini DP to DVI/DVI-dual link/HDMI/VGA adaptor to actually connect the monitor to your laptop.

personally I prefer something in the 20-24" range with a mDP to DVI adaptor

To find 20-24 range with a mDP to DVI adaptor from ebay, what keywords should I use? 20'' mDP?

I use a mDP > HDMI cable I got off Amazon, the brand name is NEET.

Look for "Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable by Neet"

You can replace HDMI with DVI or VGA to get what you're looking for.

Screen size have nothing to do with the adapter, they come separately. Not sure about your budget, but you can find some lower end 23" IPS for around 150.

I just picked up an HP 23bw (a 23" 1080p LED IPS monitor) for $150 and I have been happy. You need to start off with a budget and by informing us of your budget if you want further assistance. The term "cheap" (actually inexpensive, you don't want a cheap monitor) is different for anyone. To me, $150 for my monitor was inexpensive. That's $70 too high for other people and not enough for people who are looking to spend more.
