allright, i'am now ready to buy the Macboook Pro 17" but the problem is that i've just heard that apple is replacing their power adapter cause of a defect with the old one causing it to fray.

    http://www.appleinsider.com/article...ed_macbook_pro_power_adapters_on_the_way.html

should i be worried about this (or is this because people are yanking the magsafe from the cord?)?

and about "leopard" if i wait for leopard, when should be the good time to buy the computer? is it safe to buy right away? or should i wait until around -say....- december 1? should i fear for any app incompatibility? (techtool deluxe that came with APP, videoLAN, Appzapper, microsoft messenger, limewire, opera) should i expect them to work properly out of the box or will i need an update? if i need an update, usually do that come out soon after leopard comes out?

should i buy from apple now?
am i better off buying online or at the shop?
    or should i wait?

I wouldn't worry about the power adapter. I have yet to fray my Magsafe, and I keep the cord plugged in almost all the time (of course, unless I'm using it away from any power outlets) since April/May.

And as for Leopard, I wouldn't worry about it. There may be some minor bugs but they will most likely not affect your normal computing experience in any way, and Apple will be quick in patching it up (in maybe the next few weeks after the launch).

If you can wait, then I don't see why not (the temptation to get one now is great though, I know :p). But if you want to get the new adapter and wait until any possible Leopard bugs are fixed out, then I suggest you maybe wait out a month or two; but if you do, then why not just wait until early 2008, possibly as early as January, when Penryn arrives and the MBP will certainly be updated then.

If you are at all impatient like me, then you should buy it now. Apple might give you price reduction on Leopard when it comes out, or they might not. Worst case, get a student friend to buy it for you for $69. :p

probably the (major) main issue with me is the news of the power adapter problem. if not i would probably be ordering it as we speak.

the second one being that i'm somewhat afraid that apple is in halfway mode in transitioning between tiger an leopard, and that they might not install it propperly since they are busy tinkering with their installer machine, changing it to leopard mode... or is that just being paranoid :p ?

You're just being paranoid imo. Just get it unless paying for Leopard later will be a problem. You'll be fine :)

At this point you really should wait.

Waiting ~30 days will get you Leopard and redesigned power adapter.

    thanks sam.

the estimated delivery is the 6th of the WHAAA....??? NOVEMBER? i thought the sales rep says that it will be ready next week. (next Friday or the monday after..)

and what is the APP Welcome Kit? will that include the Techtool Deluxe?

and what is that "cancel items" button do in the "View order details" page? will that cancel like... all my orders with single click without confirmation? or perhaps a single item? yikes scary :p
    anyone knows?

    -----

and just wondering... is it possible to change the order a bit.. say i want to change the screen from matte to glossy, or vice versa. not that i want to do it but.. just good things to know.

and how do i know that my order is the standard matte screen?

I'm perfectly fine with Tiger and it will get updated again around Leopard's release, it seems so I guess I won't be upgrading to Leopard till next year when I'll be buying new Penryn mbp(yes, I got hooked on macs)...

well then, welcome to the club :D i'm assuming you moved to mac when apple decided to move to intel?
apple really did the right thing by moving to intel. speeds is up. and people like me who never considered macintosh because of the PowerPC system, start buying them, and loving them :D oh, and the little crack called the iPod + iTunes.

oh, if you can, don't get peryn when it lauched sometimes Q1 next year. wait till the new chipset arrive later in the year (can't remeber the date. but i think it was H1 2008)

Yes, Leopard is coming and will probably be a "must have", but I've had a number of Macs during the last year and have 3 different power adapters and none of them have been a problem.

Keep in mind that I carry one in my bag with me and it is constantly being taken out, attached, and removed and stuffed back in my bag. Not sure what the fraying comments are all about, but I've never experienced anything like it.

When you buy is really a personal issue, but I couldn't see waiting for Leopard as a reason to put off your purchase. In fact, like most OS's, you might want to wait a couple of months before you upgrade to Leopard just to let the first series of reviews tell us what works and what doesn't.

I believe you're talking about Montevina, expected to arrive in the second quarter of 2008?

Montevina probably isn't worth waiting for, since the next chipset/ platform (Nehalem) is going to be incompatible with it, and Nehalem is going to be much better than Penryn/ Montevina. Montevina doesn't offer much advantage over Penryn /Santa Rosa anyways.

see... there is something better if you wait just for a momment. if you keep on waiting, you never buy.

the reason i choose tiger over leopard is because tiger is matured now. if i wanna wait for leopard, i preferably need to wait till december/january. so all the 'early launch' bugs is cleared and the apps are ready.

anyone know about my question earlier?

i've actually done some investigation. if you custom order; the order number will be... a macbook pro 17" is Z0ED 15" is Z0EC and the macbook is Z0ET. if it is stock its MA897X/A for the 17" MBP. can anyone confirm?

hey, guys, this was unexpected :) i got my 17" Macbook Pro today! along with the STM Large Brink bag i ordered. no applecare protection pack though... the sales rep tells me that it is auto register, and they will send me the "welcome kit" about 3 weeks later. anyone knows more about the "welcome kit"?

oh btw, as of now i haven't turned on the computer. but i am hearing this ticking noise, when the magsafe plugged-in, when it is un-plugged the ticking noise slowly stops similar to this guy on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jU7WBgzNmGU though not that loud. keep in mind that the computer is never turned on at this point.

anyone else have this? oh and i move this thread here, so as to keep with the topic.
