Randomly / rarely jumpy MM (and once trackpad) pointer motion

    Gents,

I have recently noted that, sometimes (randomly and rarely for the time being), the pointer of my bluetooth MM (Mighty Mouse) moves farther than what I was expecting it to move. This happened probably in concomitance with the opening of some application (Iphoto once). In other words, it appeared to me that the pointer accelerated more than what I demanded it to move with the displacement of the mouse. It was not really a uncontrolled jump (as it sometimes happens with optical mice) but like a transitory but self-contained loss of pointer control.

I believe that a similar event occurred also once with the trackpad pointer when I went to the bottom of the screen to make dock appear in concomitance with a skype call launch....the pointer seemed to move fast to the right although I am quite sure it was not my finger to command this motion on the pad.

I have tried (with respect to MM) to delete and recreate the bluetooth .plist but it did not prevent from having this occurrence (note also that the batteries are OK).
I have read in some other forum, here in this site, that this might be due to OSX pointer acceleration (not perfect) management, but I would like very much to have your feedback / thoughts on the subject, please.

    Thanks

    Cheers

did you notice a similar behaviour (randomly, as on my macbook) on yours too?
    Cheers

No I don't have this issue, my mouse set up is a Logitech MX Revolution or Razor Diamondback 3G, using it on an Alienware mousepad.

I did some more reading today and software issues with the MM on Mac OS X seem to have been fixed in 10.5.2. But people are still experiencing problems.

I would say try it in different surfaces and see if the problem persists or even worsens or gets better.

There is a wiki answer about this problem and it basically states your mouse could be damaged, but really I don't know...I've never used any of Apples mouse products.

I can confirm that it is something happening when there is some workload on the macbook (even if it is a small workload as the one occurring when I open iphoto): indeed, after launching iphot and during its loading, I moved the mouse and the pointer did move on a larger area than what I could expect it to cover. I read somewhere on apple forum about another user noting a similar behaviour

It is probably the acceleration management done by OSX.
    Any feedback else?
    @irishhenshin Thanks for your reply
    Cheers

Ok so I was reading again that it might or might not be that acceleration management, however I did find a fix just in case that is it.

It's an old post but 2 people this year posted it helped 'cliff-edge acceleration', which I had seen previously mentioned with the mouse pointer jumping.

    Hopefully that works!

I will eventually try it even though in the other thread (which I participated to on apple site) there is another guy having noted what I described here above (exaggerated pointer motion vs. what might be expected with mouse displacement).
    Cheers

yes, this is os x's fault with mouse acceleration.
