My girlfriend has a Macbook 13' and recently she told me a problem with it, everytime she opens Word the system slows down, big time. It sounded like a Ram problem because I know Word is mem hog, plus all her other programs running. Anyway the Macbook comes with 512mb which is crap and can barely run much of anything, I looked it up and its fairly easy to install, so this is where you guys come in.

I need to find out how much Ram I can install (only 2? or up to 4? and can OSX even recognize 4?) and what Ram is compatiable (I thought Ram was universal, but I could be wrong) thanks a bunch :D

I'm thinking of two gigs, but just wanted to know if apple had a specific brand type only.

Anybrand will be fine. Buy a 2GB stick for $10-15 and put it in the Macbook. it takes 5 minutes tops if you know hwat you're doing.

It's very easy to upgrade. See the supplied apple manual. But remember, If you break something while upgrading, you void your warranty.

Could you specify when you bought/got it? That would help very much so on determining the most RAM you can put into your Macbook. For the first model of the Macbook, you can only have up to 2GB of DDR2 667MHz RAM. Here's a 2GB kit I found for you, if you have the first Macbook. ;)

If you have the next one up, then it can be expandable to 4GB, but it will only see 3GB of it. Similar to Windows 32-bit OS. :p I would go with the highest amount you can get. ;) Here's a 4GB kit I found for you, if your computer can use it. It would be great if we could know your specific processor also. :)

EDIT: Here's a link showing specs on the Macbook, and everything there is to know about them. ;)
