What are the chances we will see some of the MBA thinovations implemented on the MBP line this summer or fall? The Apple Store guy I spoke with when I was looking at the MBA is convinced we'll see it, but of course he doesn't have any more insight into the Cupertino machine than most anyone else. This could be a big summer/fall for Apple if they overhaul the MBP line and come out with the second-gen iPhone.

MBA "thinovations" are not exactly going over very well, so I hope non of that MBA features go and ruin the MBP into something other than a serious notebook. Aside from running OSX, The MBA is just about the opposite of what many MBP purchasers would be interested in.

The topic creator must mean the larger, multi-touch touchpad om the MBA making its way to the other models. Other than that, the MBA has nothing to share with the other models.

Apple may put LED backlighting on the Macbooks.

Yeah, you're right. SSD will never make it into the MBP line.

Well I hope he meant the multi touch touchpad, however he said "slimovations" which led me to think he was talking about the downsizing features and not the real hardware.

Well, I could see maybe SSDs on the MBP...anyway, yeah, there almost has to be some major update for the MBP this year. I hope for a redesign, as the current design is long outdated.

Nah, I hope they don't change the design of the Macbook Pro, yes it is an old design, but it is still as brilliant a design as ever.
I mean, the first PB/MBP design showed up in 2001ish (from memory) on the Titanium Powerbook (correct me if I'm wrong here :p), how many other notebooks from 2001 still look brilliant?

i gotta hand it to apple and the macbook pro design.

it could use a little bit of help though- like a user swappable hard drive, which shouldn't really add bulk. maybe a card reader and another usb port. these really aren't design decisions, though... better isight, bigger trackpad, better speakers (although these may be the best notebook speakers ever, they still aren't great)

what more could you possibly want from a macbook pro?

    blu ray? lol.

I don't think there is alot that they can do with the design Apple has it as small and compact as it can be. I think any design changes will be minimal like others have said bigger track pad mabey change the keyboard a little but the overall design couldn't change without becoming larger which would drive away customers.

I wouldn't mind if they left the overall design the same, but add incremental upgrades.

I want a new redesign. Believe it or not, things are getting smaller and smaller and if they wanted to, they could definitely slim up the MBP a bit more, but of course that would have its drawbacks like higher temps etc. This design, like Sam has said many a time before, is LONG outdated. Just because the MBP design is brilliant right now doesn't mean that it can't get better. If they can make one design marvel such as the MBP, then they can definitely redesign it to be even better.

I would rather have an 8800GTX than a slimmer case.. ;)

Yeah, it would probably be possible to cook with the MBP if they added that card. But it would still be cool. :p
