Has anyone who purchased a MacBook Pro (late 2008) found a model of RAM to upgrade the machine with?

I purchased two 2GB sticks of G.Skill DDR3 from Newegg (a brand I've had nothing but good luck with) and the computer hard crashes with those sticks in but is fine with the stock RAM. Multiple passes of Memtest86+ in another machine show no errors with the sticks which leads me to think it's just a case of a picky motherboard. I'm looking for confirmed success cases before I choose another brand.
