I have both Quicktime 7.2 with Perian and VLC on my Macbook Pro. With VLC my .avi files load in 1 second... When I use Quicktime they usually take around 30-40 seconds? Does anyone here know why it happens? is it something known about?
Thanks.

Quicktime is just a very fat, slow program. I have the same issues. Avoid it if you can.

That doesn't sound right. Quicktime is a little slower than the others but 30-40 seconds is way too much. I hope you are not exaggerating.

are you sure they are .avi files? because if they are .mkv files, it has to preload the full movie first.
also, .avi's load pretty quick for me.
and ironically, quicktime + perian works better for me then vlc on my ibook g4. -
I had the same problem a few weeks ago. I uninstalled and reinstalled Perian and it works perfect again.

Works great now!! I just reinstalled Perian!!!

i hate quicktime, until recently you couldnt even watch a movie full screen without using the pro version. if it loads in 1 sec in VLC, why dont you just use VLC?

Or better still use MPlayer.

it loads the full movie into memory before playing it. its something they are hoping to fix in future versions of perian.
