    Hi all,

I just wanted to evangelize this piece of software called Quicksilver:

    http://quicksilver.blacktree.com/

    http://docs.blacktree.com/quicksilver/overview?DokuWiki=69e77d91c297a468337632e559fe9c7f

I've seen other Mac users gushing about this thing off and on for the past couple of weeks, but didn't bother to actually look into it. Especially because the first time I went to the site I could barely even figure out what it actually did or what made it so special.

I'll admit I probably can't explain it well. When I hear people describe it, it just sounds like some sort of app launcher or something. But it really is so much more than that.

All I can say is, if you're a Mac user, really, just download this and try it out. I highly recommend reading and following the steps at:

    http://vjarmy.com/archives/2004/03/quicksilver_a_b.php

In order to get a real taste for everything Quicksilver can do.

Anyway, hope this helps! Ever since I installed it and saw how awesome Quicksilver was, I've been trying to tell just about every Mac user I know to give it a try.

Cool, just finished watching that video - even learned a few things... :)

Definitely nice though, I think they do a great job of showing what Quicksilver is all about. Thanks again!

Quicksilver is (somewhat) like Spotlight on steroids. I must say I still don't use more than 5% of what it's capable to do, and it is already very useful.

Cool, I'll check that out. Automator is another one of those things I've always wanted to spend more time to actually learn how to use.

Yeah, I think that was also my original perception of what Quicksilver did, and hence my problem with "getting" it and not seeing what the big deal was. I think what I really love so far about it is really how simple it is to perform various actions once you find the app or document and how easy it is to use it to string together multiple actions (i.e. finding a file, creating a zip archive of it, then e-mailing that file to one of your contacts) in a much shorter amount of time and requiring much less effort than the normal process.

Indeed. It is true that QS has a somewhat steep learning curve, because it becomes useful once you know what's capable of. e.g., say you want to move a handful of files; select them in Finder, open QS, type Command-G - to group the current selection, and then start typing move( to), and then select (or type) the dir you want to put them. Question is, there is no clue of this capability (or of the many others) - you have to explore on your own, or read tutorials. Once you master it, it is really much quicker than using Finder or whatever is the normal way of doing things.
