If I get a TOSLINK cable and hook it up to my Logitech Z-5500 speaker system, will the Macbook (not pro) be able to play 5.1 audio? I'm hearing differing opinions on this.

Thanks, and sorry for making this my fourth thread here in a week. :)

AFAIK, the macbook can hook up to an optical cable, but you'll need a mini TOSLINK to TOSLINK cable. The Z-5500 has a built-in decoder, so you shouldn't need to purchase a separate one.
