With the base Macbook Pro, how will the following titles work:

    1.) TF2
    2.) L4D
    3.) Call of Duty: Modern/WaW

I'm guessing the default of 2gig ram is going to hurt. I would upgrade in the near future to 4. I'm not looking to put AA/AF on, but I would like a smooth framerate at the native resolution.

    Any ideas?

    Yes, they will play. ;)

AFAIK, you have a 9600M Correct?

Should run each of these games fine at medium to high settings. TF2 you could probably crank it all the way.

I think maybe close to medium if you have to run it at native resolution. Macs aren't the best for games.

Ok then, they will all play. Not sure about the rest, but COD will run at ~Medium, maybe Med-High. Depending on resolution. ;)

He would run these games through bootcamp probably, so it would be comparable to a pc with similar specs.

I'm just saying the GPU of the Mac is not as powerful as the GPU of a less expense windows laptop like mine. Just saying Apple does not give you a option to have more powerful graphics. Not like macs need to play many games any way.

2gb RAM should be enough for these games.

Not really. A 9600M in a Mac will perform very simmilar to a 9600M is a PC, if not the same. ;)

What I mean is I bought my laptop for 1250 last May. At the same time (I forgot) apple I think had only a 8600gt in their MBP. The minimum price for a MBP was like $2000. For 750 less I got something that could play games better. Don't get me wrong, I like Macs. They are superior in many ways to PCs, but they can't game very well that's all I'm saying. If you plan on buying a Mac then don't plan on playing games at the highest settings. Maybe medium with native resolution.

Well, technically they game just as well as a comparable PC- it just costs more to do so. :)

@ OP- I run COD4 on all high settings on my MBP 8600M GT 128MB, including 2X AA, and I get minimum 20FPS (although my secret is using a custom resolution- I use a 2.35 aspect ratio, 1440 x 613- it cuts down massively on the resolution the game needs to be rendered at, but it looks cool, and has kind of a cinematic feel :)).

    Yeah and that's also at 1440 by 900 not 1920 by 1200.

True, but doesn't your Gateway have a better card than my 8600M GT? I'm saying that a PC with an 8600 should perform about the same as a MacBook Pro with an 8600 (in Bootcamp).

Left 4 dead and TF:2 run fine, You can run L4D at high settings, but you might encounter some lag when you get a mass swarm of zombies coming after you. :p
