I am in the market for a new laptop and have been looking at the new macbooks . Although I know that I can get a higher spec pc for the same price, I like the look of the apples and the softrware, as well as the ability to use either os x or xp. Anyway, the question that I have is this: I want to know how well the GarageBand app runs on the base model macbook. I am just curious of any kind of latency issues or choppy performance. I am a musician and am also looking for a way to record my ideas (I'm not looking for studio quality, just something that's decent sounding and easy to work with, and it seems that garageband fits the bill perfectly, plus it's pre-installed). Also, I was what kind of setup you would suggest for recording. Are the ports on the macbook good enough or am I looking at needing a dedicated preamp?

I would imagine GarageBand would run pretty well on the MacBook considering that it ran well on the old G4s which are far less powerful than the Core Duo.

As for ports... I can't say. Obviously a preamp is gonna give you better sound quality as well as control. But if you're not look for top-notch quality, the onboard sound card and Line In port should be fine. Although an external sound card is always better.
