Considering taking the plunge and buying the new 2.2 black MacBook but I have a couple of questions about buying online versus buying from an Apple Store.

    a) If you purchase online, is the MacBook shipped from a factory or is it taken out of stock from the closest Apple Store?

    b) If I configure it online with upgraded RAM and harddrive, is it built that way from the factory or is a base model pulled from stock and upgraded (the same as if you purchased from an Apple Store)?

    thanks

    a) Shipped from who-knows-where, but not the closest Apple Store.
    b) Done where it's bought. If it's done in a store, I think they upgrade it for you.
    c) Don't upgrade RAM online, buy it and do it yourself. It's too expensive.

    A) It ships out of China. So consider it the factory :p.

    B) They'll do all the work in China, I believe.

    C) I agree with sharpsees, you can save some cash upgrading with third-party bought RAM. Try Newegg.com if you're in the US.

There's two or three distribution centers in the United States, and one in Canada I think. If you order a model with no upgrades, then it will get shipped from one of those. If you make upgrades it'll be shipped from China.

Best to upgrade the RAM yourself.

I ordered mine (basic white macbook core2duo 2ghz 1gb ram no upgrades) online in the UK and it was shipped from China.

Plan was to do the RAM & HDD upgrade myself but just not got round to it yet!
