So my laptop recently broke and my uncle had an old G3 in perfect conditon that I am going to use for a while cause I don't really care about latest and greatest but will in the next few months get a new apple when they upgrade, but basically..

What can be done to upgrade the G3? I know I need to add more ram and I was wondering about another bigger HD. Also, does anyone have a link on where to get the hardware for it?

    Thanks alot.

more ram, they have 256MB on the mobo? And you can add 1MB?

As far as the harddrive, seriously consider an external drive. You will get A LOT more storage for the money and have backup for some of the more important files on your laptop.

The iBook G3's varied in the amount of ram that they had soldered down from 32MB-256MB.
Those with 128mb and 256mb of ram on the motherboard could support up to 640mb.
Apple sometimes underestimated how much ram these models could take.
However there are no 1GB memory modules PC100 or PC133 made to try and see if this models will take any higher.
The 512ram modules do not run cheap they retail for about £50 $80-$90.
The cheapest place to buy a 512 ram module is ebay i think.

These iBook's i know can take up to 120GB HD and possibly more but for that i am not certain.
In the US probably NewEgg would be a good place to buy a HD these iBook's also take Pata HD's.
Check the specs on the Apple website to find out which model of iBook you own.

This website has very good guides for upgrading iBook's.

If you are feeling risky, you can also try overclocking your iBook G3. I'm not sure precisely what model you have, but this utility works with the 750FX variant, which was the version that Apple used with there last few models.

It's amazing that they are still developing it considering how old the iBook G3 is, but it works in Mac OS X, all the way up to the latest 10.4.10. Obviously it's at your own risk, but a 50MHz overclock should be commonly achievable.
