Hello I have a late 2008 MacBook 13 inch white model. It is Intel Dual Core 2.4 GHz and currently has 2GB of RAM on it. I recently downloaded Minecraft but it is too laggy. I am thinking of getting a 1x2GB ram that is compatible and just stick it in. However, I want to know if getting 2x1GB ram is better and if the 1x2GB ram is going to cause any problems.

ANY INPUT IS HELPFUL. THANK YOU

Get a matched pair 2x2GB for 4GB total. I think that machine will hold up to 6GB of RAM, if I'm not mistaken. Check macsales.com - you can check by your model and see what the max is that your machine will take

The performance differences between two 1GB stick and one 2GB stick are going to be negligible. In fact, you would really serve no benefit by going from 2X1GB to 1X2GB. If anything, you should upgrade to something beyond what you currently have. As diggy suggested, go with 2X2GG if you want to upgrade the RAM. The cost isn't going to be that much and if you are already going to open up your MacBook, you might as well properly upgrade it.

Just keep in mind that the bottleneck for your system and Minecraft is probably not the RAM but rather the graphics setup. From what I have gathered, that has the dreaded Intel GMA X3100. I conducted a 6 second Google search for some benchmarks. Other people are reporting about 11-12 FPS (frames per second) on systems similar to yours with the native resolution. They can get 24 FPS if they drop the level of detail, draw distance, and resolution but then again that is with 4GB of RAM (not 2GB).

Either way, you will have to do more than just upgrade the RAM in order to make the game even playable let alone enjoyable.
