Hi all, I'm thinking of getting a previous-gen MacBook Pro, mainly due to its matte screen. I intended to solely run Windows on it, as I'm 100% happy with it, however I've read the trackpad is somewhat screwy on a Windows MacBook Pro.

I haven't really tried OS X, but one thing about it that I don't like is all the animation stuff... how things will zoom in and zoom out, sort of like the default settings on Vista. I prefer to have my windows and menus come up instantly without any sort of effects. Is it possible to do this in OS X?

Uhh, yea, I don't really have any windows that zoom around and stuff.

If I want to "minimize" something, I just Hide it (apple+h), then if you "alt+tab" to it, it shows up again.

Although you can also use things like spaces, and expose. I think one of the neat features about OSX, is that everyone uses it differently. I never use spaces, or expose, but theres other people who rely solely on them. So its up to the user, how that use it.

As for windows, in the past the only thing i've noticed about the trackpad in windows, is that its been a bit sensitive. But I usually use a mouse when in windows cause im playing games. Could just have to adjust it in control panel.

But if the zooms and so forth are the only reason why you dont like osx, id atleast give it a chance before you go all windows. Most people who are in you're situation, stick with osx. Also i think if you get certain programs that customize osx, you might be able to turn off the zooms.

I'd have to concur.....if the only thing keeping you from using OSX is the animations, you're REALLY missing out on a good thing.

If you give OSX an honest chance, I'm pretty sure you'll wonder why you stuck with Windows for so long.

I'll say Mac OS X animations aren't as "big show" as Windows Vista, so maybe that'll help you. There's some aspects where you can set it to be vibrant and eye-catching, like having Dock icons enlarge when you hover over it. But otherwise, stuff like Expose (where all the currently open windows are put on a grid so you can see what you have open and can choose between them) are rather low-key.

same here. there's two of us at work who give support to the Mac's on our network, and anytime I set one up, I always turn the magnification off, and enable clicking and secondary click on the trackpad. drives me nuts when i get a machine that doesnt have those same settings in place

I don't mind, I don't shuffle around applications enough to worry about them :p. Usually I have Firefox, iTunes and Photoshop open and that's about it :p.
