Hi my friend's getting a macbook pro and she wants to know if there's a reliable site that sell them at a better price than the apple store site.

Thanks for all the help! :D

Well, you can get them from a place like MacMall.com or Amazon.com, often with a mail-in-rebate of around $150, and also without having to pay tax, so that can amount to a lower price than what Apple sells them for themselves.

I'd probably go with Amazon.com though. From what I've heard, they are very easy to deal with if you ever have to return it or anything. Someone was telling me they had a terrible experience with MacMall, not accepting a return for any reason (worth verifying at least).

It's hard to find big discounts since Apple sets a market price. Most retailers are not allowed to discount them -- those that do often eat the price of the discount in the hopes you'll buy accessories and upgrades.

Good luck...apple does a pretty good job at restricting the market. They offer a student discount but I'm not sure if that applies to your situation.

I compared the prices before I purchased from Apple and Amazon, and without taxes Amazon beats Apple's price. But because I was purchasing my MBP and AppleCare using a student discount, the combined prices was cheaper than those offered by Amazon. Also, I got the rebate on the iPod Nano.

Yeah, the iPod Nano rebate helps balance things out, as does the student discount. The Amazon.com price is still a good deal for a non-student though.

One thing to note though; you don't need to buy AppleCare with your educational discount at the same time you buy your MBP.

Technically speaking, a student could buy an MBP from Amazon.com (not that there's a whole lot of benefit there), and buy AppleCare later and still get the educational pricing on AppleCare.
