Hmm, say the usual partition for WinXP is made and Bootcamp allows the user to switch to WinXP. The user then decides to download some videos like anime (.avi, .mpeg, .mov) while on WinXP. If the user then goes on OSX, can they play the downloaded file 'in' that WinXP partition or can it only be viewed while being on WinXP?

Is it possible to download files while being on WinXP to say a usb harddrive and watch those files or use them for editting later in OSX, vice versa?

This assuming there is no need for file conversion (not sure if the Intel macs avoid that need).

I don't know if OS X would be able to see the WinXP partition (although I don't see why not since OS X can read Windows formated discs) since I've never used BootCamp or a MacBook, but I do know that you'll be able to view all types of video formats in OS X just like you would in WinXP because players like VLC and MPlayer exist for both platforms. And yes, you can use the same USB hard drive on both Mac OS and Windows. I've used one to transfer files back and forth between my Macs and PCs quite frequently.

On the internal HD, I think that OS X can read the XP partition, and even write too it if its formatted with FAT32 - if its formatted with NTFS, it can read the Windows partition. I don't think the XP partition can read or write to the OS X one, however.

Ahh, I forgot that minor detail about NTFS. So even w/ bootcamp beta OSX can only read/write under FAT32 eh? Thanks for the info and thanks for the info on being able to use a usb drive. I'm not too concerned about XP being able to read/write on the OSX partition since it'll only be used to play one game heh (not WoW ;) ), but more concerned/curious over if bootcamp under a MBP could allow files to be cross-platform compatible between two different OSs' in two different partitions (e.g. like the NTFS detail) all while being in the same physical harddrive and while being on the go.... thus my curiosity of how bootcamp and intel macs work, as I can't really test bootcamp on a ppc mac mini :p .

OSX canb read and play files on the NTFS partition. Like the previous poster said, you CAN"T write to the NTFS partition from OSX though. FAT32 you can read and write.
