Laptop fell (accidental damage) and the only damage was a minor crack on teh connecting hinge on the back of the laptop that connects the screen and the bottom of the laptop.

I don't think apple care will cover this but I like keeping my laptop in pristine condition. Questions are:

    1. How much is this part? seems pretty cheap but you know it's apple so wonderign how much it is.

    2. any advice on the best and cheapest way to get this repaired?

Cheapest way to repair is probably through an Apple Certified Service Provider.

These are independent shops that do Apple warranty work, and are likely to be less expensive than having Apple do it directly. You can search for providers in your area via the page at Apple.com here. This also has the advantage of having techs who know how to take apart and reassemble Apple notebooks the right way :).

If you'd really want a straight answer about what part to buy or about how much it would be to repair we'd really need a picture of your damage and exact model you have.

With just saying its broke on the back the first thing I think is what model is it, it could be an old iBook, a old Macbook, a newer unibody Macbook or unibody MacBook Pro.

Here ya go. It's the black strip part. 2010 April MBP.

if you look super close you can see the black part cracked on the edge. you can only see when laptop closed.
