I just came back from the store where they had a display model of the White Macbook and it was full of swirl marks (tiny scratches) everywhere on the outside shell. My question is... Do they come with tiny scratches like that from the factory or are they pristine when you get them?

    Don't get the white macbook.

    Just get the unibody.

There's no point to save $300.00.

But in regards to your question... not sure if it is from factory but it will get there one way or another.

They don't have any marks coming from the factory. But they will scratch easily if you don't take care of it

The casing of the white Macbook is made of very soft plastic, which scratches very easily. Of course, the plastic would not be scratched when you purchase one brand new.

I was just considering it because of the upgrades they did to it (upgraded RAM (from 1GB to 2GB), the upgraded video card (same as the unibody MacBooks), upgraded hard drive, etc.) and I find it looks VERY nice in white, but I'm still uncertain. :D

Get the unibody. I had a similar choice to make only I could've gotten the top of the line black Macbook or the new unibody. I opted for the latter after the advice from many members here and could not be happier. My girlfriend and a ton of other friends have the white Macbook and while they are great computers on the inside, the plastic casing easily chips away and the LCD is not as bright or crisp. I also think the new Macbooks look much sleeker.

To answer your original question, the unit on display is handled every single day. Moved around, touched by people, god knows what. That's why it's scratched and what-not.

The unit you'll get will be wrapped in, and show no scratches or anything like that.
