    Hello everyone,

I have been encountering two big issues:

    1) About half the time I turn my MBP on, all the white areas of my screen are streaked with purple lines everywhere. It looks to me like graphics card artifacing, but I don't know. It's weird because sometimes the purple lines last for 5 minutes and other times like an hour. Then they just go away. Any idea what's wrong? Anyone got a fix for this?

    2) In the last month or so, I have been extremely frustrated in OSX because its performance has gone way down since I first got the laptop. It is acting slower than a netbook. At times (in bursts), it is unable to play youtube videos smoothly, even at 360p. It halts while playing pandora frequently. It is unable to play HD video smoothly (shot with an iPhone 4).

It is really weird. At first I thought it was the graphics card (purple lines), then with the processing slow downs I thought it might be the HD or processor messing up. Now I don't know what to think, and think it might just be the software messing up.

Another tidbit of information, I run Windows 7 on bootcamp, and it has not slowed down or showed any signs of a hardware malfunction as far as I know.

I'd really appreciate some help on this. I'm fixing to call Apple, but I figure they will probably just give me the go around for a while. Some members on here are far more technically advanced than the apple support personell.

    Thanks!!!

Actually I think the best part of buying an Apple notebook is the customer support.

Go to an Apple Store, they give you some of the best support you've ever seen.

I was going to say it is a hardware problem, but because Windows works fine it might be something wrong with your OSX problem.

However the Apple Store gave me awesome support, they fixed my problem super fast, and were pretty knowledgeable. Also if they can't fix your problem in 5 days they might even replace your computer with a brand new one. I would definitely go in. I think the phone support is above average, but the in store support is AAA.

windows 7 uses the AMD card only, OSX uses the Intel card most of the time. Sounds like the integrated Intel is the issue. I would take it to apple as suggested and let them fix it.

The purple lines happen whether I'm running with the Integrated card or Dedicated card. Unfortunately, I am more than 2 hours away from the nearest apple store :(.

You can try a clean install of OSX because if W7 doesn't have any problems its probably something wrong with your OSX install.

yes try a clean install, then run software update to make sure it's all unto date. Don't install any programs yet, just OSX and see if the problem is still there. If it is, I would take it to apple.

Before you do a clean install try creating a new administrator account, shut down and restart logging into the new account... See if your problems persist... If that clears your problem you can dig deeper into fixing your regular account.

Hopefully the clean install might have solved your problem and if not, call apple support through express support lane and they will be more than helpful to you. I also life about 3 hours far from any apple store and i got mine repaired via mail within 3-4 business days.

Repairs via mail will be an option for you after calling apple customer service. There are also 3rd party businesses that are apple certified and can do the repair. Looks like you're going to need to go with one of those options, or 8 hours of driving (drop off, return, pick up, return).

Thank goodness that I live near an apple store. I just dropped off my unit as the wireless just quit on me (smc reset, system configuration reset nothing helped) and the battery has started to dropped 200 mAh in last 2 weeks.

Anyway, doesn't apple send a free box to send your product to their repair center? I think the biggest bummer is that you can't call them after 90 days, unlike other companies. My vaio would never have been fixed had I not been able to get the customer service reps in the states after the call center disasters.

They send a free box... and pick up the machine and then ship it back to you... but you will still be out of having your machine for a week or so...
