Hi everyone, I'm aware that this appears to be a common problem, but it doesn't really look like anyone has my Macbook's EXACT symptoms on the situation.

I recently got the Macbook for Christmas and it has been giving me no problems until last night. I was watching a video on it and I had it plugged in, as the battery was running low, when it all of the sudden went blank and shut itself off. I thought that maybe the battery had died for some strange reason, since it had not been in its charger long, went on my other computer and dismissed the situation until this morning.

When I unplugged it, checked the battery life (it was full, by the way, 8 green lights came on) and then tried to turn it on, nothing happened. I held down the button for a long time and still, nothing. I tried plugging it back in and turning it on, still nothing.

I got the manuel out and tried the Command, P, R and Power button thing, which made the laptop make a small noise. Then I tried once again to turn it on, but the screen just went to a lighter gray and nothing happened. When I pushed it again, it went dark. I tried removing the battery and putting it back in, but it still did the same, and I even tried holding down the power button for five seconds while the battery was out. Still nothing.

Should I call a technician? I'm going to the mall today, and was thinking about bringing the laptop for looking at. I don't know why I would randomly have this problem as I haven't downloaded software related recently - it just shut off. Is there anything more I can do?

Thanks for your help, it is appreciated.

i think it would be a good thing to take it to the apple store. you've gone through the normal troubleshooting steps and the problem persists, so take it to the experts.

Did you leave the battery out, press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds, then put the battery back in and try to turn it on?

If you can get to an Apple store it would be the quickest and cheapest way to find the answer to this problem.

Make sure you (if you can) select an appointment date & time with the Apple store online before you go. You will likely avoid a long wait for service if you go as a "Walk in".

I have just started getting the same problem today. I haven't installed anything new in the past month besides the recent Quicktime upgrade this morning.

Now my mbp keeps entering standby randomly whilst I'm using it. If I just leave it alone for 30 seconds, it switches itself back on to exactly wat I was working on as if nothing happened! Very sneaky...
The only thing the random standbys seem to have in common is they always seem to be when I am streaming a video on Firefox. Youtube, Gametrailers and Veoh. I'm not sure if these have anything to do with the crashes (or Quicktime) since I'm always on youtube and it doesnt always crash like that.

This is the first genuine issue I have had with my mac. Before, I was just being a n00b... :D

I've been researching this, and the most likely problem is bad RAM. This has all of the symptoms of bad RAM.
