I just finished installing Matlab 7.4, and during the install it told me I didn't have X11, and I needed it before I can run matlab. So I finish installing, go to the apple site and mac sure I have the mose recent version of X11(I do) and try to run Matlab. Nothing happens.

Does anybody know how to get matlab 7.4 to run?

You uninstall your Matlab and do the following:

Update Java - I believe it's a Java issue. You might also want to creat this under a different account. A google search will confirm - see msg 22:

    http://newsreader.mathworks.com/[email protected]@.ef50b0c

    1. Open X11 application.
    2. Change to the MATLAB/bin directory (e.g. cd
    /Applications/MATLAB74/bin).
    3. Run sudo ./matlab
    4. Enter your password.
    5. MATLAB starts smoothly with all the eye-candy.

Here's the error that comes up when trying to install.

I've done updates to make sure I've got the most recent version of X11 and Java. Also, I can't find X11 on my computer anywhere. I've tried installing updates, and it says I have the most recent version, but it's nowhere to be found!

The fact that you cannot find X11 is because you have not installed it.
Install X11 via your Mac install DVD. You will need to run a search on the DVD for X11, as it is located in a hidden folder. After you install that you shoul d be fine.

mm.. you're wrong buddy, x11 isn't hidden.. you just have to close the window that come's up and get in the disc via finder.. but, it's just easier to get there by Spotlight =) good luck

Thanks for the help. I just used Finder to search through the disk and snagged X11 off of it, and now Matlab works great. Thanks again!
