Many a time a I will put my computer to sleep by simply closing the lid and upon waking it up it powers up to full brightness. I try to adjust the brightness with the F1 and F2 key but it doesn't let me: it shows that it is at full brightness on the first notch so i have no way to adjust it down lower. I prefer to save my eyes and keep the brightness at about half so the only way to do this is to restart the computer.

Also, many a time i will close the lid, but instead of the computer going to sleep i hear the hard drive turn on and the see the screen turn on to full brightness from the illuminating apple sign. Again, i can't adjust the brightness down

Does anyone have any solutions or explanations for the problems i have?
