In the last 24 hours my MBP has crashed 5 times under very normal load, itunes and firefox. It doesn't seem like it is triggered by anything i do, it happens randomly.

the screen will freeze and starting at the top the screen will slowly get darker then a box will pop up in the middle of the screen telling me that i have to hold down the power button and restart.

Does anyone have any ideas? I bought that macupdate software bundle so i installed like 10 new programs in the last week. That might have something to do with it.

Try creating a new account and use it, see if the problem persists. If the problem is new and only started after installing these programs, then it is likely they caused an issue.

Yes, I would like to suggest that you hold the option key when you start up, that way you can fix the problem. Good luck

If you bought that bundle, I think you should have TechTool Pro. Might be worth running it (or if not, using the Apple Hardware Test CD) to see if you have any hardware issues that could be causing this as well.
