On the left side of my macbook there are 2 screws near the front. This area pushes in 2-3mm but the screw closest to the ports does not appear to be stripped enough where it is coming lose. Is this normal? It did not have this much flex a few days ago.

You sure about not having this flex a few days ago? I've had this flex all the time. Not that bothered about it though. It's only a few mm flex.

it flexed by the ports but now further down that I saw. I guess it is possible I over looked it. Is the screw supposed to move in and out with the plastic?

It does on mine. I'm not bothered by it. I don't mind a bit of bendy plastic unless a crack appears.

You already answered your self. They are there just because 2 screws are on the right side and it would look strange if the left side would be without them.

They're used to hold down the top layer, I think.
