I have a new TB display which I'm using with my MBPR. It works great, except...

Periodically the display just shuts off. Using the keyboard or mouse will not turn it back on. Plugging/unplugging the TB cable does not turn it back on. Opening/closing the laptop does reactivate it.

It's very inconsistent. Sometimes I can go a whole evening without it happening. Sometimes it happens every 10 minutes for an hour.

I haven't been able to figure out a pattern. Happens when the computer is under low load. Happens when I'm in the middle of typing, so not related to auto-sleep. Happens if the MBPR is closed or open. Happens with both of the TB ports.

Has anyone else seen this? I'd rather not have to take it back, and expect nothing but grief over an intermittent issue.

    Thanks!

I had the exact same problem, took it back to best buy for refund, will wait for newer version did not want to deal with it, I also had problems with a jumping blue tooth mouse, would last about 3 minuets till it stopped. The problem was only with the display hooked up.

    Thanks Spydweb!

I'm going to take the low response to indicate that this is a rare problem, so it's worth taking it back for repair.

I'm not sure it's the same thing but I had occasional instances when the displays went blank as you describe. The rMBP was going to sleep because, after I connected the cables and moved the laptop back out of the way, the power cable was moving enough to break the connection. I've found that the Magsafe to Magsafe2 adapter can quite easily be moved enough such that it still looks attached but the power/charge light is off.

I make a point of checking that the power/charge is still on after I finishing moving laptop and I've not had the issue reoccur.
