i just got a WD passport 320GB essential, i told it out from the casing and i have swap out the WD drive to my mbp 120GB (it is a 2.2G hz)

Now i want to install the system to the new HD, but when i try to install system, it said i need to go to disk utility and partition it as GUID partition table.

Ok, so i switch to disk utility and and try to format the passport. OK i guess i choose mac os extended jornaled? right? but i can't see any info in partition for me to partition as GUID partition table?

Also my 320GB drive show 289 GB avaliable, is that right?

Do i need to enable any special command formating to get this work??

    Thanks all!

PS there is a jumper on the passport do i need to remove it when i install to my mbp?

It has to do with how the hard drive makers and the operating system report the size of a hard drive. For marketing purposes, the hard drive makers obviously want to maximize the storage capacity of the drives. There's nothing wrong with your drive.

There should be an options button, below the partition table window. Here you can select the GUID partition option.

    Also from the apple website
    .

I have done the install twice now, using 250Gb wd passport drives in my macbooks... they work well and so far no problems!
