    I got this message: You cannot install Mac OS X Update on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update.

    It's a brand new Unibody Macbook how could it not work?

    I believe some of the 10.5.x updates would *only* proceed to install if the immediate previous one was already present, although sometimes the Combo update version (rather than the simple standalone one) could bypass that restriction - I don't recall whether in .8 that was the case or not.

    I would suggest to start there and either try the Combo update or check if you have 10.5.7 and if not work your way up to that.
