I've looked in the archives, and searched other sites, and can't seem to get any clear answer to this question....

I know Leopard comes with print drivers installed, but a lot of them seem to be the generic Gutenberg drivers. The functionality on my old HP printer became limited with Leopard, and now that I've installed Office 2008, even more so. [And no - HP isn't supporting my product with any updated drivers. Geez.] I can no longer choose quality (i.e. draft vs. best), or black and white vs. color, which means I'm wasting a lot of ink. So it is time to buy a new printer that will have FULL functionality. Searching manufacturer sites (Brother, Canon, HP) it is still hard to find any printer that is supposed to actually work with 10.5.

Anyone have any recos on where I should be spending my money to upgrade, so I can choose color vs. black and white, two-sided, 2 pages per sheet, etc? For what it is worth, need a printer with a feeder - I do lots of photocopying.

    Many thanks....

we had a macbook pro until recently

the lexmark, x4550 osx 10.5 driver, worked for us on our wifi x4550 lexmark printer

the xp and vista drivers, including x64 worked fine also

it does double sided, has a feed, lots of print options and the latest of the series are still under $100 if you get them on sale at a place like office depot, where thery're often on sale........

Thanks for that info nobscot6- hand't considered Lexmark. And that printer does look like a possibility...

Meanwhile, another thing that has come up - laser vs. inkjet. Anyone have a preference? Seems like laser has a higher cost upfront, but lower long term costs if you're printing enough each year....but is the quality good enough?

laser's are much more durable and long lasting

for med to heavy use, a laser printer is probably your best bet (IMO)

I've got a Canon Pixma iP4500 and it works great with Leopard. I've updated to 10.5.2 and no problems with the printer, and its working fine with Office 2008

I just got a Canon Pixma MX700 about a month and a half ago and I love it! It works great in Leopard. The only thing it does not have is two-sided printing. Other than that it has a document feeder, flatbed scanner/copier, fully functional fax, and is networkable.

In case anyone else out there is looking to get a new printer that will work well with Leopard....

I ended up getting a Brother multifunction laser and so far (one week in) it is a fantastic fit with Leopard! I got a wireless model that I've set up as an ad-hoc network with my MBP, so I just switch to that network when I want to print, then back to the DSL network for surfing. (Hooking the printer up to my wifi router turned out to be a bit unstable - the printer kept dropping the connection.) I downloaded the drivers from the included disk, then the updated drivers from the Brother site. The printer is also playing well with Office 2008, for example, the colors that print out are actually similar to what Office shows on the screen. (Office 2008 has a new schematic for font colors; that didn't work with my old printer.)

Quality printing, speedy copying, works with Leopard and Office 2008, I've got duplex printing back...I'm a happy camper!
